Strange as it may seem I grew up in a home without dogs – in fact, I was the only kid in the neighborhood who did not have a dog. And it remained so until one day I happened on a marvellous little book written by the late Irene Hayes on Airedale Terriers. I resolved right then and there that one day I would have an Airedale.

Sixteen years would pass before aquiring my first show Airedales, a dog and bitch puppy from Kitch Kennels in Nova Scotia. Their bloodlines were of the English Saredon lines. The two puppies were named Holly and Troy, hence, my kennel name “Hollytroy”. As luck would have it, Holly produced only one female who had to be spayed at two years, thus a new foundation was needed if I was to carry on.

So … a call for help went out to Janet Johnson Framke, who put me in touch with Scott and Susan Kipp of Huntwood Kennels in Wisconsin. Scott’s mother is Mareth Kipp, owner of the very successful Moraine Kennels. Thus, my line is heavily Moraine. Several months later, Am/Can Ch Huntwood’s A Puppy For Dee (Alanna) joined my kennel. Alanna is that one good bitch that is so hard to come by. Her sire is Am Ch Darbywood’s Super Star (a Bravo Star Buck son), her dam Am Ch Moraine Promise By Tiger (a Hold That Tiger daughter out of Mareth’s famous “Promise” line).

The following year a handsome young son of Am Ch Finlair Scottshire Mako would join his half sister Alanna. Between Alanna and Desi (Am/Can Ch Huntwood`s Hollytroy Designer) this breeder’s dreams were about to come true. Desi went Best Puppy In Show at his very first show in Canada, and was Canada’s #2 Airedale Terrier Dog that year with only a few months’ showings.

In 1999 another Huntwood dog was imported, “my icing on the cake dog” BIS Can/Am Ch Huntwood Maverick N` Hollytroy. Maverick is a Finlair Tiger Of Stone Ridge grandson. I feel truly blessed for where in North America today would one find a dual titled intact Gator grandson? Maverick’s sire is BIS Can/Am Ch Moraine Hold That Tiger, and his dam, Am Ch Huntwood’s Garnet is Desi’s sister.

These three dogs have either directly or indirectly honoured me twice as “Breeder Of The Year”, given me successive generations of Best In Show Dogs, and have themselves been among Canada’s top Airedales, and have produced Canada’s #1 Airedale Terrier 2000. A number of their offspring are Specialty winning dogs both in Canada and the US.

If you study the pedigrees of these three dogs, you will see a closely line bred pattern coming forth – that is the basis of my breeding program. My breeding program is very limited, one litter per year or less, actually, only when I need something to add to my breeding program.

Besides breeding and showing, I am a mother of three grown daughters, and four granddaughters who keep all my puppies and big guys “kid friendly”. In the nursing profession, I have recently scaled down my working to four hours a day to accommodate my dogs.

Besides dogs, my other passion is oil painting. I am particularly fond of doing portraits.

My small family kennel is situated on the banks of the world famous Miramichi salmon river in New Brunswick. All my dales live in the house as part of our family, ditto the puppies. You might say it is wall-to-wall Airedale around here!
