I’ve been passionate about dogs since I could walk. When I look at old baby pictures it all makes sense. There was the Airedale toy on wheels, the wire fox stuffed animals, the terrier baby lamp.

The long-legged nobility and character of the Airedale was irresistible and has become my passion. It’s no wonder that I became heavily involved with the breed in the ’80s, first in the obedience ring, then in the show ring, followed by subsequent roles with the Airedale Terrier Club of Canada as Obedience Chair, Specialty Chair, three terms as Vice President, two terms as President and now the ultimate role of ATCC Past President.

For most of us, a special dog was responsible for a lifelong passion. My heart was first stolen by Skye, who was the reason for our kennel prefix, Skyecroft. He was the noble clown who played the part of Sandy in the musical Annie and became the love of my life. When Skye needed a lady love, we began our search for our foundation bitch. She was Rebecca, CH Jokyl Canadian Dream, from Mary Swash in England.

Life has never been the same and now six generations later, my heart still rushes when I see beautiful youngsters in our whelping box. Our home currently houses a Rebecca/Ranger granddaughter, Rhapsody, and great great granddaughters Raven and Chanel (along with one little white wanna-be-an Airedale, Krista, who is a West Highland terrier).

My husband, Saul and I both enjoy showing our ’dales and enjoy our memberships and friendships in the canine world. In addition to the ATCC, I am active with Terrier Breeders, The West Highland White Terrier Club, The Burlington Kennel Club and the National Airedale Club in England.

Wonderful Airedales are usually owned by fabulous owners and it is amazing how many local and long distance friendships can develop. In Canada, we are fortunate to have a wealth of wonderful breeders. Our passion is reflected in the bright eyes of our dogs and the success they exhibit in the show ring, obedience trial, agility and every other venture their owners are brave enough to try! Members often spend evenings grooming together, traveling to shows together, comparing notes and celebrating each others successes and tribulations.

Take a look around a dog show – you will never see the level of camaraderie in other breeds that we enjoy in Airedales. It’s what makes our Club special!
